Day 9 - 2 June 2007

Alas today was my last day so I decided I had better make the most of it. I started the day by checking out the local Westfield - still in shopping mode til the very end. The only thing I managed to find was a new pair of sunglasses but was happy with that.

I then drove out to Akoroa which is a small French coastal town 1.5 hours out of Christchurch. The drive was rather windy and there were some pretty tight turns but the scenery was beautiful.

I had lunch by the water and walked around. I would have liked to have stayed there a night as it was such a cute little town where I finally succumbed to the Kiwi's love of fudge and bought myself a piece of Rocky Road fudge - it was fantastic.

On the drive back I stopped in at Barry's on the Bay cheesery and tried some local fare. I bought a piece of the Massaman cheese (don't ask me what it was but no, it didn't taste like curry!) I then headed to the French Farm Winery just cause there was wine there.

They were really busy and everyone was drawn to the Gucci people who landed by helicopter. Yep, helicopter. Suddenly our chauffeur driven wine tour didn't look so glamorous in comparison. I want to do that one day!
